My Visit to Durgam Cheruvu Park in Madhapur

I would like to share my experience on visiting Durgam Cheruvu Park which is located at Madhapur. I go to this park frequently on weekends for a walk or jog.

I have parked my bike at the parking area and walked towards the entrance of the park. Just to the right side of the entrance, there are words saying ‘I Love Durgam Cheruvu’ are placed with background lights to illuminate the words and many visitors are trying to have a selfie at this spot. A concrete wall of lower height is present on right side of entrance so that visitors can sit and relax if one doesn’t like to go inside the park. I purchased the ticket from counter and entered the park, I could see big plants of different species like ‘Ficus’ on both sides and also sculptures on both walls.

As I walked further, I entered the walk or Jog track which is separated by a divider. The left track is away from the lake, it is closed by wall on one side. The right track is lake sidetrack which has iron mesh or grill on one side for safety. I took lake sidetrack as I can get best view of lake while walking. At the beginning of this track, top 10 photographs from ‘Indian Photo Festival 2022’ are pinned to the iron mesh so that visitors can view them. I have gone through the photos and each picture tells you something. While walking along the lake side, I stopped for a minute facing the lake to have a complete view of lake. It is very big, and it takes almost an hour to complete one jog around the lake. At a distance I could see speed boats, kayaking boats and a beautiful cable bridge built across the lake connecting Kavuri Hills and Jubilee Hills. As it is evening, bridge looks even more attractive with light show on it. I closed my eyes and took a long breathe to relax but I could not take it longer as the lake water smells fishy. As I started walking reached kids play area on the left side of track. i could hear kids screaming with joy while sliding from Slide, swinging, playing on see-saw. I can also hear some of the parents shouting at their kids to be cautious while playing while others are sitting at a distance keeping an eye on their kids and capturing pictures of them. Play area also has an unused Bamboo cottage and asbestos house. Just 100m ahead of play area there is an outdoor gym with all equipment required for outdoor gym activities. I reached out to one of the vacant equipment to shed few calories. Beside Gym, there is large Chess board with very big chess pieces on it which are heavy as one cannot move them with a single hand.

Walking ahead for 10mins, I reached ticket counter for boating services which is maintained by Telangana tourism. It has different boating options like normal boating, speed boating and the cost varies per boat selection. I have chosen speed boating, boarded the boat wearing my life jacket but need to wait for 2 more persons to start the trip. I really enjoyed the ride as it gave an ‘adrenaline rush’ but the worst thing is the fishy smell of water. As I walked for 10 more mins, I reached ‘’Durgam Cheruvu Water School” where one can learn “Kayaking” skills. Different courses are offered for kids as well as for adults or we can take a one-time Joy ride to experience Kayaking as a beginner. I have jogged for 30 more mins to complete one round around the lake to reach the entrance of park. By the time I came out of park, I could see many food stalls along the park with variety of dishes like Momos, tiffin, shawarma, sandwiches, sweet corn, rolls, BBQ chicken. As I walked through the stalls, my mouth started watering due to the aroma of variety dishes. I had a chicken BBQ at one of the stalls which satisfied my hunger as it tastes really good, paid the money and left the park.
